Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions we're asked most often by students and families in the UK and India.
Getting started with Bridgeway
Bridgeway Global Pathway is a study-abroad education consultancy. We help prospective medical students understand and navigate university options abroad, currently focused on Bulgaria, and support them through eligibility review, university selection, documentation and application preparation.
No. Bridgeway is an independent consultancy. We are not a university, awarding body, government organisation, immigration law firm or regulator. Universities make their own admissions decisions; Bridgeway helps you prepare a strong, complete application.
We work with students and families based in the UK, as well as students and families in India and Kerala, who are considering studying medicine abroad — including students who haven't secured a place through the usual routes in their home country.
The best first step is an initial consultation, where we discuss your academic background, goals and timeline, and talk through whether studying medicine abroad is a realistic and suitable option for you. You can book a consultation or check your eligibility from our Contact page.
Studying medicine in Bulgaria
Yes. Bulgarian medical universities offer an English-medium track specifically for international students, in addition to their Bulgarian-language programmes. You will typically also take Bulgarian language classes to support communication during clinical placements.
Medicine programmes in Bulgaria generally run for 6 academic years, in line with the standard structure used across most of continental Europe, combining pre-clinical and clinical study.
Recognition depends on the regulator in the country where you intend to practise, and this can change over time. We strongly recommend checking current recognition and registration requirements with the relevant regulator for your home country (for example, in the UK or India) before applying, and Bridgeway can help point you to the right official sources.
Most Bulgarian medical universities require international applicants to sit an entrance assessment, typically covering core sciences such as Biology and Chemistry. The exact format varies by university and can change between intakes, so Bridgeway confirms current requirements directly with the university for you.
Bulgaria is an EU member state with an established history of hosting international medical students. As with studying in any new country, we recommend researching practical matters — travel, accommodation, healthcare and local support — before you commit, and Bridgeway's pre-departure guidance covers this in detail.
No. Admission decisions are made solely by the university based on its own entry requirements and assessment results. Bridgeway supports you through the application process — from eligibility review to documentation and entrance exam preparation guidance — but cannot guarantee an outcome.
Applications, fees and support
In outline: an initial consultation, eligibility review, university selection, documentation preparation, submitting your application, preparing for any entrance assessment, and — if you receive an offer — pre-departure guidance. See our Application Process page for full detail.
Tuition fees and living costs vary by university, city and academic year, and we do not publish fee figures that haven't been verified as current. Contact Bridgeway for the latest verified tuition fee and living cost information for your intake.
Please contact us directly to discuss our current service arrangements. We'll be transparent about any costs involved before you commit to anything.
No. We cannot guarantee admission, visa outcomes, or any other decision made by a university or government authority. What we can do is help you put together a well-prepared, complete application and point you to the right official guidance for visa and immigration questions.
For UK students and families
UK medical school places are highly competitive, and many strong applicants don't receive an offer in a given cycle. Studying medicine in Bulgaria is one option for UK students and families exploring routes into medicine beyond the domestic UK system.
No. While we support UK-based students and families, Bridgeway is not limited to the UK market — we also work with students from India, Kerala and other backgrounds considering the same destinations.
For Indian and Kerala students and families
European medical degrees are not always titled "MBBS" — Bulgarian universities generally award a Medicine (MD-level) qualification. In practice, many Indian students use the term "MBBS abroad" to describe studying an equivalent medical degree overseas. Bridgeway can explain how a specific university's qualification compares, and what recognition steps (such as screening tests) may apply if you plan to practise in India.
Yes. We work with students and families across India, including Kerala and the wider Malayali community, and understand the questions that typically come up when comparing European medical study options to routes within India.
