Plovdiv, Bulgaria · Founded 1945
Medical University – Plovdiv
A state medical university in Bulgaria's second-largest city, offering a six-year Medicine programme taught in English, built around a 2,000-bed teaching hospital.

Overview
Medical University – Plovdiv traces back to 1945, when it began as a medical faculty of what was then Plovdiv University. It became an independent Medical Academy in 1950, was renamed the Higher Medical Institute – Plovdiv in 1972, and took its current name, Medical University of Plovdiv, in 2002. Today it comprises the Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy and Public Health, alongside a Medical College and a dedicated language and pre-university training department.
The university runs an English-language Medicine programme for international students alongside its Bulgarian-medium provision, with clinical teaching centred on its own teaching hospital of around 2,000 beds.
Plovdiv is Bulgaria's second-largest city, with one of the longest continuous histories of any city in Europe, an established international student community, and its own airport with seasonal European connections.

Admission
Admission is decided solely by the university, based on its own published entry requirements and entrance test results. Bridgeway supports students in preparing a complete application but does not influence or control the university's decision.
Entrance exam: International applicants sit entry tests in Biology and Chemistry (in English). The university typically offers several test sittings across the admissions cycle rather than a single fixed date — Bridgeway confirms the current schedule with each student. The final competition score combines the Biology and Chemistry results with the English assessment described below, up to a published maximum; the university's current admissions pages set out the exact scoring formula for the cycle you're applying to.
English requirement: Applicants without an accepted English-medium qualification or certificate (commonly IELTS/equivalent at B2 level or higher) sit the university's own English language diagnostic test alongside the Biology and Chemistry entry tests.
Intake: Entry tests are typically offered on several dates across the spring and summer, with rankings announced periodically as the cycle progresses and final ranking and enrolment taking place in September ahead of the autumn start of the academic year. Exact dates are set by the university each cycle.
