Overview

Alexandria University was established in 1938 (initially as a satellite of what became Cairo University) and became fully independent in 1942 — the same year its Faculty of Medicine began teaching. It's now one of Egypt's largest universities by enrolment. Alongside Medicine, the university has an established Faculty of Nursing (founded 1954) and a Faculty of Dentistry, which began as a school within the Faculty of Medicine in 1945/46 before becoming an independent faculty in 1970.

The university is based in Alexandria, Egypt's second-largest city and a historic Mediterranean port with its own international student community.

As with Egypt's other major public universities, exact admission routes, fees and the language arrangement for international students should be confirmed directly with the relevant faculty for your specific intake and pathway.

Medicine programme

An integrated Medicine degree (MBBCh — Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, sometimes searched for as "MBBS") combining pre-clinical sciences with clinical training across the Faculty of Medicine's teaching hospitals. Bridgeway's detailed research so far has focused on the Medicine pathway; students interested in Dentistry or Nursing should ask us for the current position on international admissions to those faculties.

Duration
Generally structured as around five years of academic study followed by a one-year internship — Bridgeway confirms the exact structure for your intake.
Teaching language
Language arrangements for international students vary by faculty and pathway — Bridgeway confirms the current position before you apply.

Admission

Admission is decided solely by Alexandria University and the relevant faculty, based on its own published entry requirements. Non-Egyptian applicants generally apply via Egypt's national "Study in Egypt" platform alongside any faculty-specific steps. Bridgeway supports students in preparing a complete application but does not influence or control the university's decision.

  • Application via Egypt's national "Study in Egypt" platform for most non-Egyptian applicants.
